The 12th Edition of the DefExpo to be Held in Gandhinagar in October
The DefExpo, India’s premier Land, Naval, and Homeland Security Systems exhibition, will be held from October 18-22 in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar. The five-day event will consist of three business days and two public days.
The event will consist of live demonstrations that will showcase the equipment and skill set of the Armed Forces, DPSUs (Defense Sector Public Undertakings), and Industry.
“DefExpo 2022 is in line with the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to achieve self-reliance in defense and achieve export of $5 billion by 2025. India has successfully established itself as an emerging defense manufacturing hub with numerous international orders being bagged by Indian companies in recent years,” said a statement by the Defense Ministry.
The event was postponed in March 2022 due to logistical problems being faced by the participants. It was previously scheduled to be held between March 10 and March 14.
The 12th edition of the expo will be held in a three-venue format. The venues include the inaugural event and seminars at Mahatma Mandir Convention and Exhibition Center, the Helipad Exhibition Center, and a Live Demo at the Sabarmati River Front.
‘Path to Pride’ has been set as the theme of the event to invoke nationalistic pride and inspire citizens to participate in nation-building by helping establish a capable indigenous defense industry.
Recent years have seen several reforms being made by the government in the defense sector. The Ministry of Defense allowed 74% foreign direct investment (FDI) in the defense sector through the automatic route, simplified the industrial licensing process, released a list of defense items that need to be purchased from domestic military manufacturing companies, and launched many new defense companies.
The DefExpo 2022 website (www.defexpo.gov.in) has been designed to provide online services to exhibitors besides providing information about the various indigenous defense products and promoting Gujarat’s heritage.
The exhibitor booking for the DefExpo will be available for Indian firms, including Indian subsidiaries of foreign OEMs, DPSUs, joint ventures between Indian and foreign companies, state pavilions, and DRDO.
