PM Gati Shakti – National Master Plan Will Facilitate Last-mile Connectivity: Goyal
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said that the PM Gati Shakti scheme will facilitate last-mile connectivity and kick start a virtuous cycle of public and private investment resulting in a multiplier impact on the economy.
The PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan was inaugurated last year to enable the holistic execution of projects by breaking departmental silos. The aim of the initiative is to address the issues of multi-modal and last-mile connectivity.
Goyal said that the plan will reduce logistics costs, help industries pinpoint factories to be set up in the future and assist the center and states in planning utilities. He termed the initiative as a ‘one nation, one master plan’ to facilitate prioritization, optimization and synchronization.
“It will help implement a holistic approach for ease of living and ease of business,” he said while addressing the webinar ‘PM Gati Shakti: Creating Synergy for Accelerated Economic Growth.
He said that JNPT, one of India’s finest ports, had very bad connectivity because of bad planning and that is what the central government is trying to change through the initiative.
Measures like PM Gati Shakti – National Master Plan along with other initiatives like single window clearance and GIS (Geographic Information System) mapped land bank will be critical in attracting higher foreign direct investments (FDI).
“It will create a seamless project management process. The PM Gati Shakti envisions an acceleration to the Indian economy and thereby, the entire nation through the seven engines of progress – roads, railways, airports, ports, waterways, mass transports and logistics infrastructure,” the minister said.
He further added that the PM Gati Shakti plan will eliminate the lack of coordination between the center and the states and ensure consistent growth across India. He also said that it will help speed up processes, reduce cost-overruns and improve the work quality.
