Envoy of Switzerland Heckner Supports Strong Trade and Political Ties with India

India’s Swiss Ambassador, Dr Ralf Heckner, has supported strong trading and political ties with India in the hopes of quickly accelerating the trade talks in the India-European Free Trade Association. European Free Trade Association is an area for free trading between 4 nations- Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.

In an interview, Ambassador Heckner said, “The Swiss state secretary for economic affairs will visit Delhi at the beginning of February, and both sides will look into negotiations and try to figure out how to accelerate the negotiations and wrap them up.”

He also hinted at the arrival of the President of the Swiss confederation this year, and both parties are in touch about this matter.

There are 330 Swiss businesses present in India in total. Their prevalence in China is 1000, which means that the number of Swiss companies is triple as compared to India. It is able to wrap up a free trade pact years back, which includes one on intellectual property. Switzerland is one of the biggest countries to put FDI in the US, which is almost 300 billion US Dollars. In India, 10 billion US Dollars are invested by Switzerland. So, the sky is the limit when it comes to the potential of Swiss business in the US and when it comes to foreign direct investment in India.
