Budget 2023- Enhancing the Manufacturing Sector of India- Experts Shed Light

In recent years, a number of supply-side policies has been implemented by the government, for enhancing manufacturing, resulting in the emergence of India as one of the top destinations for investment from both within and outside.

A number of strategies has been enacted by the government for endorsing the manufacturing industry. Detrimental effect on the growth of the manufacturing industry was caused by the pandemic.

However, strong growth of double digit was recorded by the industry in the previous financial year of 2021-2022.

To name a few steps proving to be beneficial to the economy are the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax, a reduction in the corporate tax, advancements to the corporate environment and modifications to the FDI (foreign direct investment) policy.

According to the experts, the 2023-24 Budget might be beneficial to the sector significantly, as providing a significant boost to the manufacturing sector, while keeping the focus on increasing private investments and exports is the government’s intention.

“The Indian Manufacturing sector anticipates to promote R&D and provide incentives for the local manufacturers. Adding to that, companies in the manufacturing space should be rewarded for bringing up new technologies and adopting sustainable business practices. With pandemic crisis affecting the supply and demand both, the manufacturing industry seeks support from the government,” said by Ridhima Kansal, director, Rosemoore.

Creating a more sustainable economy will be helpful in reducing the emissions of the greenhouse gas which has the ability to cause climate change, Sanjay, the president of Material recycling association of India said. He added that the existing zero percent duty on ferrous scrap import till “we generate a sufficient quantity and quality of scrap from the domestic market” will be continued by the government hopefully.

This will help in building a level-playing-field for the industry of Indian Recycling in the global arena.
