TAMIL NADU

Tamil Nadu, the land of Kanjivaram sarees, houses the country's largest spinning industry. The urbanized state has the second largest coastline – 1,076 km – in India and an excellent road and rail network. Tamil Nadu has a diversified manufacturing sector and features among the leaders in several industries like automobiles and auto components, engineering, pharmaceuticals, garments, textile products, leather products, chemicals, plastics, etc. It ranks first among the states in terms of number of factories and industrial workers.

According to the DPIIT, cumulative FDI inflows in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during April 2000 to December 2018 stood at USD $29.28 bn. During 2017-18, total merchandise exports from the state stood at USD $29.75 bn. During 2018-19, the exports stood at USD $22.53 bn.

Aerospace

Only Indian state to 4 international airports, Tamil Nadu is planning Special Purpose Aviation Resource Cluster SEZs (SPARKS) to boost investments in the sector, which is expected to create 100,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities for highly skilled resources.

 

Food Processing

Tamil Nadu has diverse soil types and 7 agro-climatic zones that offer ample opportunity to grow a variety of horticulture crops. Also, seafood and spices form a major part of agricultural exports from the state.

 

Textile and Garments

Tamil Nadu ranks first in apparel production and second in textile production in India. It houses India's largest spinning industry, accounting for almost 40% of the total installed capacity of the country.

 

Automobiles

The state accounts for 21% of the total auto exports from India. Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu, is one of the largest auto hubs in the country. Tamil Nadu is the largest tyre manufacturing state in India and home to over 80 auto component manufacturers.

 

Information Technology

Tamil Nadu is the fourth largest software exporter from India. The state has the largest telecom bandwidth and highest tele-density in India with 14.8 tbps. IT exports from the state account for more than 10% of the country’s total IT exports. IT & ITeS exports from Tamil Nadu have increased to Rs.1,111.79 bn (USD $17.25 bn) in 2017-18, at a growth rate of 8.55% year-on-year.

Tamil Nadu ranked 1st in terms of domestic tourist arrivals and 2nd in terms of foreign tourist arrival in 2017. The state is also one of the leading medical tourism and wellness tourism destinations in India.

 

Renewable Energy

he state has highest renewable energy capacity in India and ranks 10th globally in installed capacity of wind power generation units. An advantageous geographical position offers Tamil Nadu a staggering potential of 500 MW biomass power and solar incidence of 5.5-6 kWh/m2 per day.

 

Demographics

About 70% of the population of Andhra Pradesh is in the working age group of 15-59 years.
