Andhra Pradesh, famously known as “the rice bowl of India”, is dominated by the agriculture and livestock sector. The state is strategically located near Chennai and has easy connectivity to major cities and is one of the favoured destinations among foreign investors. International big players such as Intel and Volkswagen have set up their production units here. Amaravati, the upcoming green-field capital city of Andhra Pradesh, is being built in collaboration with the Governments of Japan, Singapore and U.K. With a GDP growth of 13.94% in Q2 of fiscal year 2015-2016, the city promises top-notch infrastructure and has taken a step towards being a medical hub with its Indo-UK Institute of Health (IUIH) in collaboration with the King’s College, London.

Textile and Apparel

Andhra Pradesh is the 2nd largest producer of cotton and silk in India and contributes by 13% to India's net textile exports. There is a strong presence of textile-based industries in Guntur, Chittoor, Kadapa, and Kurnool. With a unique integrated apparel city in Visakhapatnam, through an innovative ‘Fibre to Store’ concept, the state has 7% of India's total spinning capacity and aims to generate a gross revenue of Rs.6,000 crores (USD 960 mn) in investments and 3,00,000 new jobs by 2020.

Infrastructure and Urban Development

The state is home to 6 operational ports and airports. 123,334 km of road network available within the state, coupled with 888 km of the national waterways and 2,660 km railways facilitate easy and convenient routes of transportation.


The state ranks #1 in fish and shrimp production as well as production of food and spices. With the upcoming mega food park in Krishna district, it is expected to attract $800 mn new investments by 2020.

Power and Energy

Andhra Pradesh ranks #1 in ‘Energy Efficiency Implementation Readiness’ index of the World Bank and has India’s lowest transmission and distribution (T&D) losses. The world’s largest single location solar park is located in Kurnool district. 7 power sub-stations have been proposed which will support additional load of about 790 megawatts in the industrial clusters and reduce transmission loss by 1.2%

IT and Electronics

Andhra Pradesh is home to more than 20% of electronic manufacturers in India. The state has approximately 44,000 km of fibre optic cable network with public and private sector connectivity.

Automobiles and Auto Components

Kia Motors has set up its first industrial unit in India in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh with an annual manufacturing capacity of 3,00,000 units. There are planned auto-clusters under development in Nellore and Chitoor districts with an estimated $3.2 bn new investments by 2020.

Aerospace and Defence

The Eastern Naval Command headquarters are located in Visakhapatnam along with the main satellite launch station of ISRO. A world-class Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility has been proposed as a part of planned Bhogapuram Aerotropolis near Visakhapatnam. The state is expected to attract $3.2 bn investments and create 5,000 employment opportunities by 2020.



About 70% of the population of Andhra Pradesh is in the working age group of 15-59 years.

Andhra Pradesh, the 10th most populated state in India, is home to about 4.1% of the country's total population. The state's population of 49.4 mn is equivalent to the population of Spain.
